A quick perusal of my fellow Southern Buddies' blogs reveals that I'm not alone in remaining a one post blogger, but I'm breaking away now. This post will serve as both a stall and a preview.

Right now I'm cooking up a classic Southern dish, tofu and spinach, while my one year old stomps around slinging her sippy cup of chocolate milk with one hand and holding a toy wooden flute in the other. Not much time to blog just now.

My theme is country noir. My author is Daniel Woodrell. My understanding is that he made up this genre to avoid getting stuck in another: mystery.

So, what's the objection to being tagged a mystery writer? Or a romance writer or any other category for that matter? Is it just objectionable to be labeled or is there something more to it than that?

I'll ponder this over my tofu and spinach and return soon.

Yippee! No longer a one post wonder! Is tofu southern? Greens and fatback, but tofu? ;)

I'm slow to get started also! Between exams and graduation this is the first chance I've had to work on this. I've never read your author but he sounds interesting.

The cover of the book "Tomato Red" is interesting enough for me to want to read it. I just finished "The Mercy of Thin Air"(eyes still bloodshot from late night of reading). My "reading inhibitor" is now 14 and is VERY generous in the free time he gives his mom for reading. Enjoy these years and hang on to your sanity! Of course, free time to read is bittersweet, for it means they don't quite "need" you as much. Ah, the yin and yang of it all, huh?

i might like to read some country noir. and I'm one of those people who would run from "mystery writer." except for Dorothy L. Sayers, of course.

Maggie, I have every intention of being polite but I am short on time and common sense! I can't figure out where this reply will land. I am almost finished with Tomato Red. I will post my review asap.

Dawn, I love your hot pink blog. I hope you find more time to spend there soon! I have no idea what Daniel Woodrell has written lately--I should look that up. All of the books I have are at least five years old so maybe that's why you've never heard of him. Or maybe he's just obscure! Not sure...

Susie, The Mercy of Thin Air is an intriguing title. I'm going to have to go find out what you've said about it. Just now, however, reading inhibitor two is demanding another graham cracker. She seems to have forgotten about the one she's holding in her hand. You are right, though, it's great to be needed. I'm not wishing any days away!
